Partial solar eclipse, March 29, 2025

Basic information

In the morning of Saturday, March 29, 2025, a partial solar eclipse will be visible from Spain. It will reach a maximum magnitude over 0.4 in the northwestern end of the peninsula, over 0.3 in the Canary Islands and the western part of the peninsula, and over 0.2 in the eastern part of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands.For a safe observation of the eclipse consult the precautions page.

In the coming years, two total solar eclipses will be visible in Spain on August 12, 2026 and August 2, 2027, followed by an annular eclipse on January 26,  2028.

Details

The eclipse willbe visible from the North of the Atlantic Ocean, partas of the Arctic Ocean, the northwest of Africa, mosto of Europe, the northeastern end of America, the northwest of Russia and Greenland. The total duration of the phenomenon will be 213 minutes (sligtly less thab 4 hours).

 

The maximum of the eclipse will take place at 11h 47m (official peninsular and Balearic time) near Canada, reaching a maximum magnitude of 0.933.

In Spain, the eclipse will be visible with magnitudes between 0.2 in the Balearic Islands and 0.4 in Galicia. As it occurs in the morning, the Sun will be quite high in the sky and will be easy to observe. The magnitude; is the fraction of the solar diameter hidden by the Moon, and it is not the same as the hidden fraction of the surface. The hidden fraction of the surface, or obscuration is slightly lower than the magnitude, and its value is given for each location in the tab “From your municipality”.

The first place in Spain where the eclipse will be visible is the Canary Islands. In Santa Cruz de Tenerife the eclipse will start at 10h;15m, the maximum will take place at 11h 4m, and it will end at 11h 56m (official peninsular and Balearic time, one hour less in the Canary Islands).
