Astronomical Almanac

The publication of the Astronomical Almanac is of particular relevance among the activities of the Observatory, and it has been performed since 1860. At the beginning, these publications fulfilled one of the main objectives of the OAN: to inform about the astronomical calendar and to provide general knowledge related to astronomy. At present, it still is a major contribution from the Observatory, who continues to disseminate the official information about astronomy and contribute to the popularization of this science. Therefore, it contains the ephemeris of our Solar System’s celestial bodies, the explanations about how to make use of such ephemeris, as well as succinct star catalogues of interest for the amateur observer. This information is complemented with several outreach articles.

Since the first publication of the Alamanac in 1860, it only exceptionally failed to be published during a few years: in 1867, 1874, 1875, and from 1881 to 1906. Since 1906, it has been published uninterruptedly.
